Information Exchange and Awareness Raising Events 2010/2011
WFD 2008/98/EC
The European Commission initiates an activity related to organization of Awareness Raising and Information exchange events on the implementation of the new Waste framework Directive, where national and regional experts are given the possibility to get first hand explanation on new requirements and proper interpretation of provisions, to exchange information and expertise, to identify possibilities for improvement and to present good practice developed in their countries.
Workshops focus on:
- New provisions for waste management planning
- Waste prevention programmes
- New waste definitions and further differentiations as concerns recycling, recovery and waste (e.g. end-of-waste and by-products);
- Expanded waste hierarchy with inclusion of life-cycle thinking;
- Extension of the Producer Responsibility
- New recycling targets to be achieved by 2020;
- New provisions for hazardous waste classification its monitoring;
- Revision of the European Waste Catalogue.
In 2010 eight workshops will be organized. (see “Events 2010”)
In 2011 it is foreseen to organize workshops in additional seven Member States (see “Events 2011”)
Information Exchange and Awareness Raising Events on WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANS and WASTE PREVENTION PROGRAMMES
In 2009 the European Commission initiated organization of a series of Awareness Raising and Information exchange events on waste management planning and waste prevention programmes, where national and regional experts were given the possibility to get first hand explanation on new requirements, to exchange information and expertise, to identify possibilities for improvement and to present good practice developed in their countries.
In 2009 four workshops were realized in Ireland,
Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria. Information on these events can be accessed
